HullRad Calculator

Fast calculations of hydrodynamic radius from structural models

Hydrodynamic radius calculations

Fast calculations of hydrodynamic radius from structural models that are useful aides in interpreting microfluidic diffusional sizing measurements.

Hullrad was developed by PJ Fleming and KG Fleming; you can find their original portal, which provides more comprehensive parameter prediction, here: Hullrad

We have adapted their code to focus on hydrodynamic radius calculations that are useful aides in interpreting the microfluidic diffusional sizing measurements obtained on Fluidic Analytics instruments. We have also added a convenient front end to make it easier to work directly with pdb files from the RCSB. The underlying calculations are unmodified from the original code except for one modification to allow the calculation of hydrodynamic radius for structures that contain non-glycine residues lacking beta carbon atoms. If your structure of interest contains these, they will be modeled as glycine residues and a list of the modified residues will be provided on-screen with the results modified from the original code.

PDB file upload
All non-water atoms in the provided structure file will be included in the calculation without the option to use only selected chains.
Drag & Drop your file here
PDB ID file import
The file will be imported directly from RCSB and the chains in the source file will be displayed for selection. The hydrodynamic radius calculation will only include selected chains; when multiple copies of each are present take care to select the correct ones.
