Mechanical Engineer (Cambridge)

The Role

This is an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to develop ground-breaking scientific instruments and technologies from concept to production and to contribute to the optimisation of existing products. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

Develop next-generation technologies and products

  • Design solutions that focus on optimal technology performance
  • Proof-of-concept and prototype development 
  • Model parts, assemblies and produce technical drawings
  • Perform risk analysis, testing, validation and reporting
  • Product design, including Design for Manufacture and Assembly
  • Work within an ISO-9001 and ISO-13485 quality management framework

Optimisation and enhancement of existing products

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of existing products and projects
  • Optimise performance and make design improvements where necessary

Teamwork and communication

  • Present ideas, progress and results to development teams and the wider business
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams covering science, engineering and commercial
  • Build and manage relationships with suppliers
  • Communicate openly and honestly

Requirements of the Candidate:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a high technology development environment
  • Degree class 2:1 or above in Mechanical Engineering from a leading university
  • Demonstrable experience of development success throughout the product lifecycle
  • Excellent knowledge of fluidics, mechanics, materials and manufacturing processes
  • Expert use of 3D CAD for technical drawing and modelling (ideally SolidWorks)
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and interact with customers
  • Experience developing products or technologies for the Life Sciences industry is an advantage
  • Competence, integrity and communication
