We believe that quantitative analysis of protein interactions is the next frontier in biological understanding, and that our technology is uniquely positioned to deliver lasting change in human health.We are now expanding our team, and so are looking for driven, results oriented individuals who will contribute to Fluidic Analytics delivering excellence to our customers.The Opportunity:As our Senior Optical Physicist, you will design and develop innovative optical systems that form the heart of the Company’s analytical instruments. From supporting research and analytical experiments, through to the development of working specifications, design of the product and transfer to serial production.As part of a small team of optical specialists you will be working as part of talented cross functional teams on our world-leading protein interaction analysis instruments. You will develop cutting edge fluorescent-based optical systems components with detection capabilities down to single molecule level in a few microlitres of sample.Duties And Responsibilities: Develop optical systems to enable the performance of the Company’s pipeline products: Work with applications scientists and systems engineering to translate user requirements into detailed technical specifications, early design models and prototypes through to final production designs. Research, design, prototype and test fluorescent-based optical measurement systems and components as part of analytical instrumentation development activities from concept development through to serial production Working as part of the product development team, analyze, simulate, and optimize the optical designs to achieve the required performance, and document the outcomes within our Quality Management System. Proactively work with the Engineering and R&D teams and lead the relationships with external suppliers to implement manufacturable optical subassemblies Perform hands-on testing of optical assemblies, particularly at the prototype stage, and assist in formulating assembly, calibration and IQC procedures to ensure designs are capable for serial manufacturing Gather and analyse test data, formulate conclusions and make strategic recommendations regarding future development and engineering activities. Improve and enhance the performance of the Company’s existing products: Optimise existing production optical designs with an emphasis on reliability, DFMA, assembly fixture design and cost. Lead design reviews of optical subassemblies and systems. Lead the design and development of characterisation and test systems. Maintain and run optical labs, improve efficiency of both internal and external optical assembly techniques, and perform verification and validations of existing optical assemblies. Contribute to development of novel optical detection systems: Keep abreast of technological developments in the wider biomedical optics field, as well as those of our competitors. Work with colleagues in the R&D team to build and test prototypes of novel optical detection methods. Contribute to IP capture for patents involving optical detection elements. RequirementsYou've Got This Covered: Educated to master’s level in, Physics or a related subject or hold a degree coupled with equivalent relevant work experience. A strong background in designing, building and testing optical detection systems for integration into analytical instrumentation, lasers and LED excitation sources, fluorescent-based detection systems using PMT or SPADs At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in a senior role ideally gained within the life science industry Excellent troubleshooting ability with both theoretical and practical lab-based optics expertise. Experience using Zemax OpticStudio or equivalent is essential. Experience with programming in Python is highly desirable. Awareness of working practices required by regulated quality systems (e.g. ISO 9001 and ISO 13485) Thrive in a hands-on setting, at the bench. Awareness of the roles of timing, finances and other commercial considerations. Ability to work in a small company environment.
